Join Coastal Expeditions for a kayak tour of Wambaw Creek, a pristine waterway nestled in the Francis Marion National Forest, on October 8th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bald Cypress and Tupelo shade this blackwater creek, creating an intimate setting for sightings of otter, deer, turkeys and a myriad of birds like kingfishers, herons and hawks.

As you take in the natural beauty, your guide will share history of the rice plantation culture that dominated this area. You'll leave with a greater understanding of the crops that were grown in the Lowcountry, and the people who tended them.

The second part of the adventure is a tour of Hampton Plantation, just up the road. The former home of South Carolina’s poet laureate, Archibald Rutledge, Hampton Plantation has a layered history and will be a beautiful end to the day. After touring the home and surrounding gardens, you'll have the rest of the afternoon to explore the charming village of McClellanville and its waterfront.

Pack a lunch and drinking water for this five-hour outing. Expedition-style kayaks and related gear are provided. Meet at Bulls Bay Supply in McClellanville at 10 a.m.
