'Green' wines up for tasting at the Glass Onion

Come try a sampling of the Glass Onion's featured wine for January, Di Giovanna's Poggionotte, on Monday, January 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Co-owner Sarah O’Kelley will also offer a taste of this nero d’Avola, an intriguing Italian red, to all interested diners.

Located in central Sicily, Di Giovvana is operated by two brothers who have five generations of winemaking experience backing them. Their Poggionotte is an organic beauty possessing bright notes of cherries rounded out by a dark, chocolate finish. The silky richness of this wine goes beautifully with the Glass Onion’s local, grass fed beef tenderloin.

The full wine list and daily menu can be read at their Web site, www.ilovetheglassonion.com. They're located in West Ashley at 1219 Savannah Highway.

The restaurant offers a “green” wine list that focuses on small production wineries that use environmentally friendly practices. These boutique bottles are offered at half the cost on Mondays for dine-in and carry-out, and at half the cost every day with a carry-out order. The Glass Onion is a seasonal, local eatery that focuses on quality ingredients and sees the wine list as an extension of their culinary practices.
