Mount Pleasant kicks off Christmas on Wednesday (update: postponed)

Update December 2:

Given all the bad weather it's no surprise the tree lighting has been postponed.

The town likely won't have a new date until tomorrow. Also, the Toys for Tots campaign is still on and will be held at the Cooper River Room at the Waterfront Park.

Update 2:

The Post and Courier is reporting the lighting ceremony has been moved to Sunday.

Something which is slightly obnoxious as the town's point person just told me on the phone they wouldn't know until tomorrow.

First reporting:

Mount Pleasant officially gets into the Christmas spirit on Wednesday, December 2, at 6:30 p.m. The town will light a 21-foot tall tree of lights at the Memorial Waterfront Park.

Read more stories on this subject in our Christmas topic page.“We invite children and parents to attend the first tree lighting ceremony at Memorial Waterfront Park to help us create a new tradition,” said Mayor Swails. “Santa will arrive on a bright red fire truck to listen to Christmas requests and distribute candy canes. Entertainment will include local performers and a “Toys for Tots” drive will be held at 7 pm in the Cooper River Room at the Visitor Center. Bring your children and good cheer and help us usher the Christmas season into our wonderful town!”

Do note the tree lighting is the day after Summerville's.

Also, the town's Christmas parade is slated for Sunday, December 13.
