'The 2012 PGA Championship Experience' brings S.C.’s first Major to Marion Square (updated)

Update November 11:

Today is the last day to catch the PGA action in Marion Square.

The event will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and again for happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event began Wednesday, giving golf fans the chance to pre-register for tickets, get free 10-minute golf lessons from PGA pros, take pictures with the Wanamaker Trophy and enjoy live music and food.

First reporting:

The PGA of America will host “The 2012 PGA Championship Experience” at Marion Square in downtown Charleston, Tuesday, November 9th through Thursday, November 11th.

The Experience offers a sneak peak for Lowcountry residents at South Carolina’s first major golf championship to be contested on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort August 6-12, 2012.

Guests will have the opportunity to tour PGA Hospitality venues (Ocean Suite, Dunes Skybox & Champions Club), constructed specifically for the event to provide a preview of the unique custom entertainment options available during the 2012 Championship. Attendees can also sample food and beverages options, and have their golf swing analyzed by a PGA Professional in one of the swing bays available at the event.

“The 2012 PGA Championship Experience” is a free public event, with food, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase.

The Charleston event will also serve as one of the final reminders for individuals to pre-register for tickets to the 2012 PGA Championship by visiting www.PGA2012.com.  Pre-registration remains open through Sunday, Nov. 14. Tickets will be available for purchase in a pre-sale open only to pre-registrants beginning Monday, Nov. 15 and continuing through Dec. 31.  PGA officials are on track to sell out of tickets by the end of the year, which would continue the trend set by the 1991 Ryder Cup, which sold out in less than 2 weeks.
