Update 5/15: We've started getting @ replies and messages from some of our friends and readers. Below are a few -we'll keep adding them, if you keep sending them!

The Myrtle Beach Mud Run raised $7000 for the Grand Strand Humane Society. Over 600 adult runners participated in a very dirty 3.5 mile run in an effort to support the Humane Society.  Nearly 100 youth runners also got a chance to get filthy in their own "Mini-Mud Run"

Update 5/14/2011: With over 600 registered racers, we know there's gotta be some great photos and videos out there. Share them with us in the comments, on Twitter, or Facebook. We'll have more details on the race results as soon as possible.

Update 5/12/2011: According to the Myrtle Beach Mud Run website you can register in person and registered runners can pick up their packets at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes tomorrow anytime between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.

We're already getting some information and communications from runners and teams named things like "Team Mudder Truckers" and "Team Muddy Waters". Should be a good time for a good cause!

Update 4/10/2011: Alternatives News Magazine has a good write-up on the Coastal Carolina YMCA sponsored The Y Mini Mud Run

In addition, a group of Myrtle Beach business owners have pledged to give food donations to the Grand Strand Humane Society for each early bird registration. Find out more in Myrtle Beach Alternatives' post.

First Report: Mud run events are popping up all over the country and Myrtle Beach will get it's very own inagural event this May. The best part: a large portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Grand Strand Humane Society.

The Myrtle Beach Mud Run is a 3.5 mile all-terrain cross country running race conducted on dirt roads and trails through one of the only undeveloped areas in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. These roads and trails include mud holes, walls, trenches and other obstacles that require crawling, climbing and jumping. Oh...and did we mention there will be lots and lots of mud!!

They're signing up individuals and teams of 2 and 4. The early registration price has been extended until May 12th.

Participants and curious spectators can get status updates by text about the Mud Run by texting MBMUDRUN to 55958.

Another cool thing they're doing is offering training tips on their Facebook page.

There's also another mud run event that appears to be for-profit called the Dirty Myrtle Mud Run happening a couple weeks later. The course hasn't been set as of 4/6/2011.
