Update May 4: The Charleston City Paper went and reports back with a short write-up and results. Go read it.

First reporting:

Come down to Folly on Saturday, May 2, for a 5K run, paddle race, standup board race, and, finally, street festival.

The 5K Fun Run and Splash Down offers a crazy gamut of beach and street fun to take advantage of the warming weather and water (average water temperature is 76 degrees).

Here's a rundown of the festivities from their Web site:

Run/walk a race, paddle in the ocean and have all the proceeds go to bettering the lives of autistic children through the Surfers Healing Surf Camp.

The 5K run will start at 9am at the corner of Center St. and East Arctic Avenue, Folly Beach, SC. Registration is $25 before April 26, and $30 for late registration/race day registration.

After the run, we move to the beach for the Rebel Yell Dash, kicking off around 11am. This is a 200 yd race around the buoy using any type of board (surfboard, bodyboard, boogieboard). This is your chance to be in the spotlight by out paddling all your crazy friends!

Immediately following is the Half Mile Stand Up Paddle Board race. This race begins on the beach on the East side of the pier and travels along the beach 1/4 mile, and then back a 1/4 mile to the start finish.

Get more details on the race aspects here.

Meanwhile the street festival runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers face painting, a dunk tank, cupcake decorating, a climbing wall, a jump castle, artisans, food, and live music by Jupiter's Garden. There will also be board demos on the beach.

All proceeds from the official event will go toward bettering lives of autistic children through the Surfers Healing Surf Camp.
