Update September 19: Charleston photographer (and rapidly becoming Charleston videographer) Jonathan Stout went out for the rolling and has a video of the spirit of the event and some brief footage of the mad dash to sweet, sweet safety.

Watch it up top or over on his site.

First reporting:

The Lowcountry HighRollers, Charleston's flat track roller derby team, is putting their own spin on the annual Running of the Bulls event and doing it Folly Beach style.

The Rolling of the Bulls will pit derby girls donning bull horns and Wiffle ball bats against runners on a track that spans from 3rd Street West and Ashley Avenue and ends at Blu Restaurant inside the Holiday Inn on Center Street.

Runners who want to participate in the Rolling of the Bulls should wear all white and are asked to make a $5 donation which will be forwarded to the Folly Beach Relief Fund and Surfers' Healing. All you've got to do to get in on the action is register online or at Loggerhead’s at 123 W. Ashley Avenue at 10 a.m. on race day, September 18th.

After-run festivities include sand derby (you have to see it to understand it), a dunk tank, a blow-up water slide and more. We’ll have plenty of refreshments for sale at Blu, street performers and live music with Jason and the Juggernauts, Head Rush and others. Raffle prizes include a 12-week program at East West Health Arts, spa gift certificates and more.
