Inaugural 'Beautiful Bulldog Contest' coming to Charleston

Calling all English bulldogs!

The Citadel Football Association will host the Inaugural Beautiful Bulldog Contest that will be held prior to the football team’s annual spring game at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Saturday, March 19.

Nine categories – including the Most Beautiful Bulldog – will be offered and they include farthest from the dog house, oldest dog, best costume, best smile, best tail-wagger, looks most like owner, and Mr. Personality and Miss Congeniality.

Those participating are required to bring a copy of your dog's certificate of vaccinations and heartworm prevention.  Dogs must be leashed at all times and there is a limit of two owners per dog in the judging area.  Costumes, t-shirts, hats and the like are allowed but are not required.

Registration is scheduled from 9-9:45 a.m. as the judges' review runs from 10-11 a.m.  The Beauty Pageant begins at 11:30 a.m., and there will be trophies and prizes for the winners. There is a $30 entry fee.

Spectators are also invited to attend, and there will be an admission donation of $5 (for 10 years old and up) requested.  Those who come to the contest may stay for the spring football game at no charge.

Owners are asked to bring water and bowl, a rug or pad for your dog to rest, pooper-scooper and bags, and appropriate gear for cold or wet weather.  A certified veterinarian will be on site.
