Spend a day Paddling 'n Partying on Shem Creek

Sunday, October 17th marks a special celebration of Shem Creek with several events benefiting the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy.

The full day of exciting activities on Shem Creek includes a guided kayak tours by Nature Adventures, the Half Moon Outfitters “Golden Nugget SUP Race”, and a “Post Paddle Party” with live music, oysters and beer. 

Thanks to the generous donation by Nature Adventures Kayak and Canoe Outfitters, there will be four 2 hour Naturalist Guided Kayak Paddles among the shrimp boats and amazing scenery found in the heart of historic Mount Pleasant.  Beginners and families are welcome.  Participants will paddle through the saltwater marsh creek and journey out to the 22 acre Crab Bank Island Preserve, which is home to thousands of nesting shorebirds.  This is a great family paddle the kids and grandkids will love! 

There are 4 different departure times for the guided paddle event to choose from and all equipment is provided.  The tour times are 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.  The cost to participate is $40 for ages 13 and up and $25 for ages 4-12.  Reservations are required and all proceeds are collected by and donated to the MPLC.  The trips depart from Nature Adventures Outfitters on Shem Creek.

Half Moon Outfitters has joined in the fun and scheduled their “Golden Nugget” SUP 5K Race on Shem Creek at 4 p.m. on the 17th.  Proceeds from the SUP race will go the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy.  Registration and information for the race can be found by calling the Mount Pleasant store at (843) 881-9472. 

From 3 to 7 p.m. there will be a “Post Paddle Partyat the Lighthouse on Shem Creek located next to Red’s Icehouse.  The general public is invited to enjoy an afternoon of great food, oysters, live music and stunning views. Entry to the “Post Paddle Party” is free for Paddle participants and does not require reservations.  All it costs is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.  Awendaw Green is coordinating all the live music from talented local musicians.  BBQ, Oysters from Holy City Seafood, and beer will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy.
