Plantation Singers singing "This Little Light of Mine"
Celebrating over sixteen years of performing, the Plantation Singers are hosting a free Gratitude Community Concert as a thank you to the community for their support.
The performance is Sunday evening, March 25th, at 6 p.m. in Creative Spark, Center for the Arts, (757 Long Point Road).
The Plantation Singers performance will also feature the Stanford Talisman, a coed group of a cappella singers from Stanford University in California, dedicated to sharing stories through music. Their roots are in music from South Africa and the African diaspora.
The Plantation Singers of Charleston, SC are a professional a cappella singing group renowned locally, nationally and internationally for their singing of the music of the Lowcountry. Their energetic and interactive performances play an important role in the preservation of the Gullah spirituals and the sacred music of the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
This group of very talented women is special in that each has a lifetime of musical experience that began with the music of the southern church. The Plantation Singers were first created in June 1996 under the direction of Ms. Lynnette White, proprietor of LBW Music Company, which provides various musical services to the community of Charleston, South Carolina.
The group's director, Lynnette White, has utilized her degree in music and theatre to help create a very positive and uplifting entertainment experience. Locally, the group has performed on the "piccolo part" of Spoleto Festival USA. The group has also performed on several local television stations. Nationally, the group has performed on Gordon Elliott's "Door Knock Dinners" and P. Allen Smith Gardens show. Internationally, the group performed for the Relais & Chateaux Hotel conference in Naples, Italy; the Sori World Music Festival in South Korea, and the Gospel Festival in Spain. The group has also performed in most of Charleston's historic sites and homes, as well as major resorts, plantations and reception sites. The Plantation Singers play an important role in the preservation of the spiritual and sacred music of the Low country of South Carolina
