On Thursday, March 10th, the Upper Deck Tavern is hosting a fundraiser for Girls Rock Charleston!, a new camp that aims to empower girls through music.

There will be live covers of female-fronted bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Breeders along with an interactive Rock n Roll photo booth, zine-making station, knuckle tattoos, and more. Camp organizers will be present to answer questions about the camp and talk about volunteer opportunities. It's a $5 cover at the door and the party starts at 8 p.m.

Girls Rock Charleston! will be a one-week camp in which girls form bands, write songs, make merchandise, and perform in an end-of-camp showcase. Each camper chooses an instrument to study (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, or drums) and participates in daily workshops and guided band practice sessions with experienced female musicians. The camp will use music as a platform to promote creative expression, self-confidence, acceptance, and community among young women and girls.
