Charleston's roller derby team host first home game

First reporting: Charleston's own roller derby team, the Lowcountry Highrollers, encourage everyone to support them at their "Spring Equi-KNOCKS" bout (match) against the Augusta Soul City Sirens at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 at the Saint Omar Shrine Temple in Mount Pleasant.

In case you weren’t sure, roller derby is a competitive sporoughly a hybrid of rugby and roller-skating with attached cultural elements like punk and feminism.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. You can buy your tickets from any derby girl at Red’s Icehouse on Shem Creek, Taco Boy on Folly Beach, EastWest Health Arts on James Island, or online.

Oh, and the Highrollers are also hosting a roller derby bingo event at The Tin Roof on March 15 at 5:30. Tickets are $10 and include 7 games.
