Get your pork and beer on at Smoky Oak's 'Beer-B-Que Bash' (update: pics)

Update May 15 (Timmons Pettigrew):

There was shaded seating, but it was hard to avoid the sun beating down on that asphalt. That being said, good times were being had by all. The beer list was impressive, especially given this is Smoky Oak's first shot at a beer fest. Highlights included two newcomers to the Charleston area, Atwater Hopstrike IPA (must be new, no details available) and Pyramid Haywire Hefeweizen (5.2% ABV, C+, 37).

I left around 5 p.m. so I can't report on the last four hours, but things seemed to generally headed into the sloppy zone, as will be the case with any seven-hour beer extravaganza.  Hopefully everyone got home safe and sound, looking forward to this again next year!

Here are some pictures from early in the afternoon's festivities.

First reporting:

Smoky Oak Taproom on James Island and the James Island Messenger are hosting their first "Beer-B-Que Bash" on Saturday, May 15, from 2 to 9 p.m.

Yep, it combines to of many a Southerners great loves: Good beer and good pork. There will be some 25 different breweries represented hosting nearly 50 different beers -- and many of those are expected to be rarer beers that you don't see to often in Charleston.

Admission is free and you can get 6 ounce pours of beer for $2 ($1 between 2 and 4 p.m.) -- with that size of pour and that many beers, I'd say come early and plan for a ride back home.

As for music: Flatt City, Rawberry Jam, and Dangermuffin throughout. And, yes, food from Smoky Oak.

We've got a request in for the brew list, we'll keep you posted.

They're at 1234 Camp Road on James Island -- yes, this event is in the parking lot.
