Lecture on local economy with Laury Hammel

Lowcountry Local First will host a lecture by Laury Hammel on Wednesday, February 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at One Cool Blow to discuss the transformative ‘10% Shift,’ an attempt to keep local businesses and farmers afloat in this bad economic climate.

Here’s a word from an emailed press release:
The 10% Shift is a grassroots movement that started in New England, and comprises citizens, businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits working to shift an additional10% of our annual budget from non-local businesses to Local Independents (locally owned and independent businesses). At a time when we hear repeated negativity about the current and future state of our economy, the 10% Shift presents an affirmative plan of action, empowering individuals to make simple choices which will have tremendous impact.

Everyone is invited to tour this eco-friendly building before the lecture at 5:30 p.m. The event is free, and a $5 donation is requested. A discussion will follow the lecture. For more information please contact Jamee Haley at (843)-740-5444 or email her at jamee@lowcountrylocalfirst.org.
