Getting festive to promote local spending

A week of eating, entertaining, and, of course, shopping local will culminate in "The Buy Local, Be Local Bash."

The festivities run from December 1-7 and are put on by Lowcountry Local First, a group that promotes focusing on the local economy. The group notes "that for every $100 spent at a locally-owned business, $45 goes directly back into the local economy, versus only $14 when spent at a national chain store."

While "The Buy Local, Be Local Bash" is the king of the events there's also the "Give Local Holiday Bazaar," "Eat Local Night," and viewing of the documentary "Independent America."
