Niche Interiors hosting 'Landscapes and Mindscapes' grand opening event

Niche Interiors, created by Charleston‐based designer Matthew Bees is opening its doors on December 3rd at 163 King Street.

The interior design boutique will feature an array of haute collections and serve as home base for designer Bees, a native of Greenville, Alabama. Bees’ capable and creative sense of style plays a modern edge against archetypal Southern balance. He works with clients to find a fanciful and functional blend in home and life.

The high‐end furnishings and design boutique will kick off with an event of grand proportions from 5 to 8 p.m. with ‘Landscapes and Mindscapes: Paintings, Buildings and Words of Five Southern Artists.’

The evening will featuring a reading and signing by world-renowned architect, designer and author, Bobby McAlpine. His most recent book, The Home Within Us, went into its second printing after only 16 days on the shelves. The book will be available for purchase at Niche.

“Architecturally educated Southerner” David Braly, first practiced, then taught, and now paints architecture from his world‐wide travels and experiences. Now based in Montgomery, he comes to Niche to showcase his both realistic and abstract architectural landscape paintings.

Images of “a world without deadlines” from a childhood spent in rural Alabama grace the canvases of Sandra Hicks Barnes. The pastoral scenes are on display in galleries throughout the Southeast, with many featured in McAlpine‐designed homes.

Doug Foltz uses his interpretive style to blur the distinction between reality and rapture. The Atlanta artist is originally from Miami, and his work reflects much of his time spent exploring the coast and waterways. His collection offers a soothing escape to the horizon line.

The vivid colors and tactile appeal of the works of abstract painter, Beverly Erdreich provide the right juxtaposition to round out the evening. The Birmingham artist’s series, Metaphor Boxes and Drawings, is currently on exhibit at LeMieux Gallery in New Orleans.

The evening is a rare opportunity to experience such a diverse and talented range of Southern artists together to celebrate the launch of new era in Charleston design with Niche.
