Whale of a Sale: Charleston's biggest garage sale is back (update: photos, report)

Update November 14: Turnout was good with many folks partaking as though this was the line for Target on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Some 2,000 came out with many lining up in the wee hours of the morning to land a good deal.

The Post and Courier has a formal write-up from fundraising sale and some nice photos of the crowd.

First reporting: The Junior League of Charleston is just days away from opening the Gailliard doors for the 36th Annual Whale of a Sale.

Never heard of it? It's only Charleston's large garage sale.

The Whale of a Sale features gently-used items, including furniture, appliances, clothes, computer equipment, electronics, books, children’s toys and holiday decorations, which are sold at bargain prices. Profits from the event support Junior League-sponsored community projects.

The Whale of a Sale will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 13th at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium.

Lines for past Whales have wrapped around the block, so either come very early or wander in late if you want to skip out on waiting around for 45 minutes.
