CCU kicks off Summer art schedule today with alumni exhibit

Three exhibitions will showcase artwork in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery at Coastal Carolina University this summer. The exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public.

The Alumni Exhibit will run May 12 through June 17. An opening reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12. The exhibit, featuring the works of selected Department of Visual Arts Studio alumni, will include painting, mixed media, digital photography and printmaking.

The Summer Arts Academy Exhibit will showcase work at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24. The Department of Visual Arts will host a two-week program for area seventh- through 12th-grade students designed to inspire beyond the normal classroom setting. The one-day exhibition will feature works produced by the students.

"Dionaea Muscipula: The Work of Theresa Hackett" will run June 30 through Aug. 26. New York contemporary artist Theresa Hackett will present her hybrid, abstract landscapes and juxtaposed, mixed-media sculptures. A closing reception and gallery talk with the artist will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.

The gallery summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays. The gallery will be closed on University holidays.
