Here is what's getting us hyped for Spoleto: Block Ice & Propane

Adventurous cellist Erik Friedlander celebrates the uniquely American experience of the road trip with a collection of cinematic cello compositions in a distinctly American style in his one man performance of 'Block Ice & Propane.'

The show is a multimedia memoir of Friedlander family road trips across America during the 1960's and 70's. The performance pairs Friedlander's Americana-inspired cello compositions with snapshots taken by his father, the well-known photographer Lee Friedlander and mother, Maria Friedlander. Filmmaker Bill Morrison contributes some visually stunning road movies to enhance the experience.

Pitchfork.com has a remarkable review of of the album, and will give you a much better sense of the sheer talent Friedlander, one of the world's top cellists, posses and shares in this journey.

Block Ice and Propane will be performed in the Memminger Auditorium on June 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th, with a discussion with Freidlander following the Monday, June 7th show.

All tickets are $30 each.
