Come out for this East of the Cooper photo walk and shoot for a prize (update: It's on)

We've though about offering a second category for "best cell phone shot."

Update May 11: OK, the weather's looking great for tonight (partly cloudy and 71). See you all at 6:30.

Update May 4: Dang rain. We're going to reschedule the photo walk for next Tuesday the 11th. Otherwise same time, same plan, same spot.

First reporting: Here at TheDigitel we love photos. Not only do we do a Photo of the Day feature to connect readers to some great local photos and photogs, but most of us are also proud owners of entry-level SLRs.

So, we though, why not do an event that grows the Charleston photo community?

Well come meet up at the Red Drum in Mount Pleasant's Old Village at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, for our first Photo Walk. We'll take a free-flowing route but will be sure to make it down to the old bridge turned pedestrian path, so be sure to bring your tripods (if you've got one.)

This will be a great chance to check out one of the Lowcountry's more iconic neighborhoods and brush up on your photography knowledge and skills, and get some socializing in.

After the event each person in attendance will be invited to share up to two images from the day and TheDigitel community members will vote on a favorite. To the winner will go a $50 Red Drum gift certificate and loads of fame.

Also, the Red Drum will be offering some tasty happy hour specials from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as half-priced bottles of wine all evening.  Come before, during, or after the walk and grab a tasting flight of one of their 17 beers on tap (remember what I said about socializing?), or some fantastic nachos with their signature voo-doo hot sauce.  Go the full monty and turn it into a fun date night with their juicy steak frites and a robust cabernet, all at mouthwatering prices.

The Red Drum is at 803 Coleman Boulevard. Drop us any Qs you have in the comments below.
