Although the Charleston Comedy Festival is still six months off, Theatre 99 wants to get the word out that registration is now open for the 2012 Stand Up Comedy Competition.

Think you've got the yuks to win some bucks? Register today; it's only $20.

This year, the competition will have five preliminary rounds. The first round will be held Friday, August 19th. The following rounds will be announced later.

Each preliminary will have 14 comedians performing five-minute sets. Time will be kept in the light booth, and if you go over five minutes, the lights go out and the MC will introduce the next comedian. At the end of each prelim, the audience votes for their two favorite comedians and the top three performers move on to the next round.

The top three finalists will perform during the 2012 Charleston Comedy Festival for the chance to win prize money totalling $1,000 ($500 to the audience favorite by vote and $500 to the winner selected by judges).
