The Memorial Day weekend round-up

Spoleto Spoleto Spoleto. Piccolo Spoleto, too. The biggest art and culture festivals to hit the Lowcountry kick off this weekend and will be the talk of the town for the next couple of weeks.

If you're not feeling the Spoleto scene this Memorial Day weekend and are looking for something more, the Charleston City Paper has a solid weekend round-up of all of the best events taking place from May 27th - 30th.

If you're looking to get far away from downtown and the droves of tourists, head out to Freshfields Village's Memorial Day weekend concert series taking place all weekend long on Johns Island. Coming off of a Tuesday night win over the Richmond Kickers, the Charleston Battery welcome the Harrisburg City Islanders to Blackbaud Stadium Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. On both Saturday and Sunday, Fuel: Charleston will be celebrating their 3rd anniversary. There will be a cornhole tournament, drink specials, and live music from Rawberry Jam and Gangrene Machine.

Heat up your evenings with some hot jazz courtesy of the Jazz Artists of Charleston's 2011 JAC Jazz Series. To beat the heat during the day, be sure and hit up one of Charleston's many water parks.

My advice to you for this Memorial Day weekend is to avoid downtown at all costs and hit the beach. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting a hot and sunny weekend, with only a slight chance for rain (20%) on Saturday.
