Charleston's holiday festivities continue on full steam ahead. This weekend is chock full of events that'll be sure to get you knee deep in the spirit.
After spending six holiday seasons in the Lowcountry, I can finally say I've made it out to the Holiday Festival of Lights. I'd always considered forking over $10 to look at a bunch of lights was not worth it, but as of Wednesday night, I stand 100% corrected. Fun for the entire family, James Island County Park's Holiday Festival of Lights is straight up awesome.
As far as holiday parades go, Folly Beach, Edisto, and Ridgeville have their turns on Saturday while Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Hollywood do it up on Sunday.
Charleston's Farmers Market is in holiday mode which means you'll have the chance to score local produce, crafts, food and more on both Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the usual Farmers Market, Santa himself will be visiting Marion Square, so be sure that you bring your Christmas wish list along to ensure a high gift yield.
This Sunday marks the December installment of Second Sunday on King Street, so after hitting the Farmers Market, stroll on King from Calhoun to Broad without the fear of getting mowed down by cars. Be sure to scope out all of the holiday window decorations!
Tis the season for more Charleston Christmas plays than you can shake a stick at, and here's a rundown of what all is playing.
Oh, by the way, if you want to get old school, you should head out to Middleton Place on either Friday or Saturday for their Christmas 1860 by Candlelight and Family Yuletide events.
Alright, that's that. Now let's talk about the non-holiday events.
The Friday marks the opening of Nest, a pop-up shop that is opening inside of Cynthia Rowley. Nest merchandise will include earrings, necklaces, and other accessories ranging in price from $20 to $40. The pop-up store will be open Friday, December 10 until Sunday, December 21. Nest's opening just so happens to coincide with Friday evening's King Street Shop Walk.
On Saturday, Captain's Comics in West Ashley is holding a gigantic all-day sale and Pat Conroy will be signing books downtown at Blue Bicycle Books.
For something a little different, the North Charleston Artist Guild is hosting the Park Circle Studio & House Tour. Model homes at Mixson have been transformed into pop-up galleries in addition to personal studios and homes throughout the Park Circle district, where guests can meet artists, see their spaces and shop for locally created artwork.
Finally, on Sunday night, Husk's Sean Brock will finally get his battle against Iron Chef Michael Symon at 10 p.m. on the Food Network.
