Time Warner Cable nearly ruins Sunday night TV viewing for SC

Yesterday, Sunday, April 29, most of South Carolina was affected by a severe cable outage that threatened thousands with the possibility of missingThe Simpsons, Mad Men, and Game of Thrones.

The outage only lasted a few hours but it was enough time to incite freak-outs and panic of, perhaps, being forced to have to talk to your family members. No TV, no cable, and no home phone (whatever that might be). Luckily Twitter was there for your mobile complaining needs; @TWCableHelp was inundated with angry customers.  To the TWCableHelp twitter team's credit, they were quick to respond to most angry tweets.

But what caused the outage? WMBF News reported that a fiber cable may have been cut, but The State newspaper out of Columbia spoke with TWC spokesperson Susan Leepson,

“Typically, our backup power switches on and this isn’t an issue, [...] But in this case, when it switched on, we experienced a glitch, and it just took the services down.”[...]“We worked as quickly as we could to get it back up,”

Thankfully, service was mostly restored by 6:30 p.m. and rants about Celebrity Apprentice contestant Aubry O'Day filled the Twitterverse in the evening signaling all was right in the world again.

Additionally there was a similar outage in Rochester, NY at the same time.
