Going strong since 1869, this year's South Carolina State Fair kicked off this past Tuesday, October 11th for a 12-day run.
Besides classic rides like the Tilt-a-Whirl, Gravitron, and ferris wheel, the S.C. State Fair has a lot of agriculture events, competitions, and of course food! Deep-fried fair food aside, there will be judging for baked goods and best vegetables.
Over at SCstatefair.org there is a huge list of attractions, daily deals, and scheduled events. This year's event has some big name entertainers lined up as well:

- Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers 10/16
- Gaither Vocal Band 10/18
- Skillet 10/21
- The Roots 10/22
- Trace Adkins 10/23
So if you're looking to get out of town this weekend, a short drive to Columbia may be your answer.
