First reporting: We always knew Shovels & Rope were an amazing band, but now, they're finally getting the national attention they deserve.

The Charleston-based band's song "Birmingham" off of their 2012 album O' Be Joyful has taken the No. 1 spot on American Song Writer's list of the Top 50 songs of 2012.

Here's what the blurb on American Songwriter had to say about the pick:

A fine introduction to Shovels & Rope’s rambunctiously inventive DIY country as well as their down-home impressionistic lyrics, “Birmingham” vividly documents how Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst came together as a band and as a couple. The song’s most quotable line could be a creative mission statement or a wedding vow: “It ain’t what you got, it’s what you make.”

In addition, the O' Be Joyful album as a whole took the No. 3 spot on American Song Writer's list of the Top 50 Albums of the Year. Boom.
