Podcast: How a high-tech design company like Twelve South winds up in Charleston

Image by Chrys Rynearson Believe it or not, the folks that make this kind of MacBook case design it over in Mount Pleasant.

You wouldn't expect it, but amidst the old-timey feel of Ion in Mount Pleasant is an upstart company that's making waves in the world of Mac accessory design: Twelve South.

On Tuesday, February 2, I dropped by for a short chat with company co-founder Andrew Green to find out why this company that makes high-end Mac accessories like a faux-book laptop cover called the BookBook (pictured), BackPack stands, a laptop subwoofer, and curved metal laptop stands wound up in Charleston, and what it's like running a high-tech design shop in an area that's more known for beaches and history. And if they're in the Charleston metro area, why not downtown Charleston or North Charleston?

To find those answers you'll have to tune into the podcast. -- And we also chat about their swank products and how they ago about getting them made, distributed, and sold while being based in Charleston.

Though I'm not much of a believer in laptop cases, their swank BookBook is making a good reach for my wallet.

You can check out more of Twelve Souths designs (and maybe buy one) on their Web site and in Apple retail stores and Best Buys.
