Two men were arrested Thursday afternoon after leading police on a 23-mile high-speed chase through the Lowcountry.

The chase started at about 2 p.m. when a North Charleston officer got a hit on a stolen van. The officer tried to stop the van but was instead led on a chase that led from North Charleston to West Ashley to Johns Island.

Finally, after the van's tired were punctured with "Stop Stick" tire-deflation devices, the vehicle was stopped at River and Santa Elena Way in Johns Island after 20 minutes of chaotic chasing. According to the report, at times the chase exceeded speeds of 90 mph.

William Joseph Owens, 21, is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and failure to stop for blue lights. Thomas Dempsey, 27, is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
