Creative juices flowed at Pecha Kucha Charleston installment 5 (updated)

Updates at the bottom.

A personal ticketing snafu from the last Pecha Kucha event really damped my spirits and optimism toward future events, but the moment I took my seat at the Hippodrome for PK5, my skepticism was dashed within the first 20 minutes.

Read more stories on this subject in our Pecha Kucha topic page.Presenters, like Nathan Durfee (the man behind the current 'Brewvival' poster art) and Nikki Hardin (chief provocateur, founder of Skirt Magazine and sole owner of this man's heart), were just some of the individuals who were very successful in establishing their own, unique brands of creativity and inspiration. This was then, by some seemingly divine power, transferred to the audience.

The highly entertaining Michael Gray kept the crowd in stitches between presenters, and by the end everyone left the Hippodrome feeling just a little lighter on their feet (if not a little lightheaded).

The theater's bar staff made sure that patrons keep their creative 'juices' flowing throughout the night with bucket specials and hard-to-come-by brews and wines.

All and all, the show was a relative success. Despite a few technical difficulties, PK5 exceeded most, if not all, of my expectations. Let's see if Charleston's so-called "creative elite" can top this performance come May.

Some community photogs were on the scene, we'll be sure to offer up links here as those photos go live. So check back later in the day.

Update, mere moments later:

The Charleston City Paper has posted their take, a long with a few photos. Link.

Update 2, more than a few moments later:

Heather Solos has posted a few photos from the night; see them here.

Also, Charlie is promising more photos "soon." Watch for those over here.
