According to The State Newspaper , Santee Cooper and The South Carolina Department of Health and Eviromental Control knew for years that arsenic leaks along a coastal river face time in court over now what  environmentalists call a failure to clean up the toxic mess from Santee Cooper's coal-burning power plant.

The Southern Environmental Law Center today has sent a notice to Santee Cooper saying that it will sue Santee Cooper for violationing the federal Clean Water Act  if untility officials don't agree within the next 60 days to cleaup the site and to stop arsenic from leaking into the Waccamaw River west of Myrtle Beach.

The notice is not only questioning how Santee Cooper manages it's coal ash at its Grainger power plant, but it is also questioning why the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has never took action against the state owned untilty– despite it having a  long-standing knowledge of arsenic in groundwater.
