Memorial Day weekend occupancy and revenue was up

The Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism has released their analysis for Memorial Day Weekend. Compared to 2010, hotel occupancy was up nearly 17% and revenue was up 26%.

While we still aren't beating the 2007 numbers, things are generally trending upward. Vacation rental properties didn't do quite as well as the hotels but they are holding steady. This also held true for the six week averages.

In case you're curious how these numbers are extrapolated:

The Brittain Center’s preliminary sample of 30 hotel, condo-hotel and campground properties reporting for the week of May 22 – 28 consisted of 14 hotels (all but three are ocean front/view,and seven are brand affiliated), 15 condo-hotels (all are ocean front/view, and one is brand affiliated), and one campground resort property. The results for the current moving six-week period are based on an average sample size of 9,859 units per week average.
