The City of Myrtle Beach Planning Department, along with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and area property owners, hope to fill vacant storefronts along major city thoroughfares.
It has been more than five years since the City of Myrtle Beach has taken inventory of its vacant properties. At that time, there were nearly 30 vacancies along Kings Highway alone. This number has likely increased given the economic turmoil that has occurred over recent years. Concerned about the appearance, the City of Myrtle Beach has created a plan to tackle this issue.
A committee, comprised of the City of Myrtle Beach Planning Department, Chamber of Commerce, and major area property owners, will begin by creating an updated database to catalog empty and vacant buildings. Their ultimate goal is to use this data to help bring more businesses to our area. They will begin by focusing on those areas most visible to incoming tourists; Kings Highway and 501.
