Cross Seed Co., the West Ashley gardening store closed its door back in January, but had one last hurrah yesterday when it auctioned off everything left behind almost one year ago.

In operation for over fifty years, some say that Cross Seed Co. had been the very first full-retail garden center in Charleston. Even more say that it was the most reputable and knowledgeable gardening center in the area.

Rich in history and full of charm, its closing is a reminder that in today's economy, nothing is forever. Mom and pop shops are a dying breed, even in the horticultural world.
