The Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA, located at 5000 Claire Chapin Epps Drive OFF OF 62nd Avenue N in Myrtle Beach has been awarded the LEED certification plaque presented by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA was recognized for not only its design but also for supporting regional business, because over 30% of materials used were made around 500 miles from the location. In short, "go local" paid off for the YMCA. Additional factors helped with the Green Building Council's decision: sustainable roofing materials, insulation that helps to use 14% less energy than conventional construction methods and large windows for natural light.
