If you're on the lookout for ways to stay green in our community, keep an eye out for Shades of Green Magazine.

The magazine's note from the publisher elaborates on the role of the magazine. An excerpt:

In each issue of Shades of Green Magazine we hope to provide thought-provoking content that not only informs, but also motivates. Our editorial focus falls inbetween concern for the planet and quality of life. including home, design, architecture, cars, fuel, transportation, fashion, beauty, food and fun.

They've got two issues out now, both of which clock in at 36 pages with seven feature articles. Here's a bit of what's in those first two:

An area family that made the choice to go totally off the power grid.
A local company that's making surprisingly soft clothing out of bamboo fabric.
Lowcountry options for recycling electronic items (being a tech-savvy individual I was particularly glad to see this).
A bit about the new hydrogen fueling station coming to Columbia.
Some tips at fending off the summer mosquitoes without toxins.

You'll like have a hard time finding a copy of the first two issues, but you can view them online. (Be forewarned, they can take awhile to download.) Here's issue 1 and issue 2 (link coming soon).

Their next issue is due out in September and will be available for pickup in some 200 locations in the tri-county area. They suggest you subscribe to make sure you get a copy, as the free copies are limited and can go fast. Word is they're looking into printing on recycled paper.

Thanks to Go Green Charleston for tipping us off.
