At Fort Sumter on April 1861 the first battle of the Civil War unfolded.

And on April 2011 the nation will mark the 150th anniversary and visitors are likely to flock to Charleston-area sites and the National Park Service's regular help will likely be overrun. So they're hoping a flock of knowledgable volunteers will reinforce.

The Post and Courier has a nice profile on the situation and preparations (along with a bit of Civil War lore); take a read here.
