Update May 9: Alas, the lone Charleston finalist, Cypress Executive Chef Craig Deihl, didn't prevail in the Best Chef Southeast category.
Still we ought not lick our wounds too much as Charleston has seen much James Beard love in the last several years with Robert Stehling of Hominy Grill in 2008, Mike Lata of FIG in 2009, and Sean Brock of then McCrady's now Husk in 2010.

Update March 22, one finalist: Of the handful of Charleston semifinalists nominated, Executive Chef Craig Deihl of Cypress is the only one to make the final cut.
Charleston City Paper has a bit more on the announcement as well as a list of Deihl's competition, and you can check out the full list of nominees on the James Beard website.
First reporting, February 18: The James Beard Award season isn't until May, but a handful of Charleston chefs are already celebrating early nods.

- Outstanding Service - Charleston Grill at Charleston Place Hotel
- Best Chef (Southeast) - Craig Deihl, Cypress and Ken Vedrinski, Trattoria Lucca
