Sanford clinches GOP nod in race for 1st Congressional District
Former Gov. Mark Sanford will run as the Republican nominee for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District during the May 7 election.
After seazing 37% of the vote in the primary on March 19, on Tuesday night Sanford cemented his lead with 56.6% to Curtis Bostic's 43.4%.
Turnout was lower in the runoff, with 46,272 casting votes, opposed to 53,657 on March 19.
Democratic challenger Elizabeth Colbert Busch apeared ahead of the situation, having earlier realesed and internal poll that showed a 3% point lead against Sanford ahead of Tuesday’s run-off.
