Update April 16:  The James M. Cox Foundation steps up with $1.2 million grant.

The Island Packet is reporting that the Cox Foundation has offered two grants to assist with the design and construction of the first mile of trail.

Head over to the Island Packet for the entire story with details about the grants.

First Reporting:  A possible $600,000 private donation may kick start the Beaufort rail-to-trail conversion for The Spanish Moss Trail.

The target area would run behind the Technical College of the Lowcountry, from Allison Road to Depot Road.

I'll point you to The Island Packet's report for info on this latest development.

Also, while the county has $1 million in secured federal funding, they've applied for an additional $828,000 to expand the trail north the Marine Corps Beaufort Air Station.
