University of South Carolina's Beaufort starting pitcher Kyle McCullough will miss the upcoming 2011 baseball season through injury, say those from within the program.

McCullough, who was last week featured as a "player to watch" in our article previewing the forthcoming season, is expected to have to undergo 'Tommy John' surgery to repair a damanged ligament in his elbow. Sources believe that the pticher could have first contracted the injury as a early as last summer, although remained unnoticed until only recently.

The Sand Sharks' season will kick off this saturday against Union Universoty in Jackson, Tenneessee. For up to date scores, game-reviews and analysis on that game and all the others, stay tuned to our local sports page.
