Beaufort's annual Cycling Classic is back May 1

Queue up the hay bails and confuse the motorists, the sixth annual Beaufort Memorial Cycling Classic is coming to town.

Despite discussion of moving it to a more tourist-attractive date, the event is once again the first Tuesday in May — May 1st, to be exact.

More than 120 pro cyclists going round and round the downtown Beaufort .6 mile Bay-Scott-Craven-Newcastle track dozens of times, 75 times for 45 miles, to be exact, again.

It all starts with the free kids' race at 5 p.m. (registration at 4) with the women's race at 6 and the men's at 7:30 — the women will be vying for $5,000 purse, and $10,000 in the men's.
