Beaufort sheriff's deputy charged after sending text messages to girl

A former Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputy, 39-year-old Jason Andrew Meier of Bluffton, has been arrested in allegations related to sending sexual text messages to a 15 year old girl.

Officially he has been charged with Unlawful Dissemination of Obscene Material to Person Under 18 Years of Age and Misconduct in Office.

He was arrested following an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the case initially stemmed from a Sheriff's Office internal investigation into misconduct in office.

Meier was employed as a patrol deputy from December 12, 2008, until his termination on July 21, 2011. Following his termination for policy violations, an investigation was launched by SLED into Meier's possible criminal wrongdoings.
