Another Beaufort County rail trestle coming down (Updated)

(Updates at the bottom.)

Last month word came that the old rail bridge over the Whale Branch was to be removed, and now the nearby and smaller train trestle over Huspah Creek is set to join it.

[Area map is below.]

The old Huspah Creek trestle (and its partial conversion to a fishing pier) have been closed for some time due (the latter in January) to unsound structural conditions, but The Island Packet writes that now Beaufort County engineers say it has to go in whole.

In addition to sharing the news of the county's intentions, The Island Packet's report is a nice look back at the history of the trestle that was established in 1917 for the Seaboard Air Lineread the paper's report here.

Update May 24: Indeed the trestle is coming down and The Beaufort Tribune has a couple photos; see them here.
