The crystal ball says this is in the near future.

Update December 25: Well, a full year after word came that a park that was already 9 years in the making was going to happen on Lady's Island, now word is coming that the 25-acre park should be ready in early 2012.

The Crystal Lake Preserver Park (map below) should be completed in January.

The Island Packet has a trio of items: one report details what amenities will be offered at the park (read that here), one details how support has come together for the park over the years (read that here), and the paper offers a copy of the master plan map for the park (see that here).

First reporting: Nine years in the making, Lady's Island appears set to finally get a 25-acre park off the more northern part of Sams Point Road, at an expected cost of $514,800.

It looks like this story happened at the November 8 county council meeting but is just now making the rounds. The Island Packet has a report on what's up, what's next, and the expected features of the park; take a read here.

Phase one of the Lady's Island Community Park includes driveway and parking lot paving, a multi-purpose ball field, signage, security gates, fencing, a pavilion with picnic tables, grill, and playground equipment, according to county documents.

You can get more details on the park, bids, land acquisition, and a detailed map in the meeting agenda support document
