Col. John Snider, the commanding officer of the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort since 2008, officially handed over the reigns to Col. Brian Murtha in an official change of command ceremony Wednesday, May 16.

Snider's retirement next week will end a 27 year career in the Corps, which has taken him all across the world. Perhaps his most notable act as commanding officer was his leading MCAS while the Navy decided to assign three active-duty and two pilot-training F-35B squadrons at the air station. The man following in his footsteps, Col. Murtha, was immediately prior to accepting the position a legislative assistant for the Office of Legislative Affairs in Washington D.C.
