Civil war troops honored on Confederate Memorial Day

An annual ceremony a the Beaufort National Ceremony yesterday saw The Sons of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy honor more than 100 confederate soldiers in a 45-minute service Tuesday, May 11, Confederate Memorial Day.

The day, which was adopted as a South Carolina holiday in 2000 as a compromise for agreeing to create Martin Luther King Day, stands on the anniversary of the Death of Southern general Stonewall Jackson.
