Update at bottom

Reported Oct. 7: On the afternoon of Thursday, October 7, a car crossed the center line of U.S. 17 while traveling north and clipped a passenger bus.

While traffic was closed on the two-lane section it was able to be re-routed to the new road being constructed in parallel. Injuries to those on the bus are not reported to be serious while it is unclear about the status of the driver of the car.

WTOC 11 has a nice write-up and a couple photos of the totaled Ford Taurus; get that here.

Sharp readers will note that it was another passenger bus accident that lead to multiple deaths that was largely responsible for propelling much of the U.S. 17 widening under way today.

Updated Oct. 8: The Island Packet has a brief update on the wreck, the most important aspect of which certainly is that none of the injuries were "severe." Read the update here.
