Update July 12: WTOC has an exclusive interview with Brig. Gen. Loretta Reynolds, the first female commanding officer out at Parris Island.

Update June 18: Brig. Gen. Loretta Reynolds is now the new commander of the Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot on Parris Island.

First reporting: Brig. Gen. Loretta Reynolds will soon be the new commander of the Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot on Parris Island — and the depot's first female commander.

Reynolds is expected to take charge of the depot today, June 17, and would take command from Brig. Gen. Frederick Padilla.

Padilla is due to lead the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan.

Padilla took over command of the island in July 2009. His predicessor, Brig. Gen. James Laster, also left to take command of Okinawa.
