Beaufort Elementary Montessori program to grow next year

Beaufort Elementary School's Montessori program has been quite the success--in fact, it's so successful that it's expected to double in size next year.

What exactly is a Montessori program? It puts the focus on hands-on learning in a classroom filled with students of varying ages and grades. Some students may work on their reading skills while others practice basic math. The environment is one of students going their own pace while learning.

The first year of the program at Beaufort Elementary boasted 20 first- and second-graders, some of which transferred from either private Montessori programs or from other schools in the district. Next year, 20 more students are expected to join the program.

If you're interested in signing your child up for the Montessori program, visit the school district's website and know that applications are due March 16th.
