Funding to speed up again from Heritage foundation thanks to Verizon donation

Let's face it, there hasn't been a whole lot of upbeat news surrounding the financially impaired Heritage golf tournament and its philanthropic wing, the Heritage Classic Foundation.

But all that changed yesterday when word broke that former title sponsor Verizon Wireless' Verizon Foundation was chipping in a $1.5 million grant.

WSAV has a nice video report on the matter (watch it here), and The Island Packet has a nice news write-up (read that here).

The money will go to many area nonprofits such as: Boys & Girls Clubs, Child Abuse Prevention Association, Hope Haven, and Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, among many others.

Keep up with tournament news on our topic page.
